A few years ago a greater need emerged in Nottingham as refugees and asylum seekers increased considerably in the local communities. These individuals and families faced enormouse problems/issues in fitting themselves into the host community. Having come from a very different background, in most cases suffered extreme atrocity, emotional disturbances, traumas, detachment from their roots and fear of non-acceptance with total uncertainty about the future, they indeed face huge challenges. It was then CCA realised this great need, initiated to a process of social integration, provided opportunities for individuals to meet our staff/volunteers who understood the entire situation, could communicate in their language thus helped them off load some of their anixety, issues that disturbed them most and gave them 'HOPE' for a brighter future.
With this need base, an important and personalised service was developed of a strong client base of refugees and asylum seekers. Over the period about 200 refugees/asylum seekers have been assisted and helped progress in various forms.
We organised several social events, social integration programmes, training packages, theme based orientation to help refugees/asylum seekers gain confidence and move forward. We have Fridays as 'open days' wherein anyone is welcome to meet our dedicated staff.
