Healthy Minority Communities

About HMC

Healthy Minority Communities (HMC) has been set-up by CCA to address the health needs of minority communities living within the City of Nottingham.

The Project is funded by the Big Lottery for 3 years and was officially launched in June of 2008.

Context

Nottingham has a population of 286,000. 52,500 (18.3%) are classed as being from ethnic minority communities (ONS estimates 2006)

Statistically someone from a minority background is more likely to suffer from social deprivation. This, in turn, means that they are also likely to suffer with poorer health than someone from a higher socio-economic status.

It is these people that the Healthy Minority Communities team will be targetting.

Through our very personal service, we aim to educate and encourage people to make the most of the NHS PCT health services available to them.

Our team of qualified bi-lingual community outreach workers will offer the extra support that many people need in taking steps towards improving their own health.

Whether it is advocacy, signposting or even escorting clients to appointments, the Healthy Minority Communities team will be able to help.
